Welcome to The Gus Dudgeon Foundation Website.

Elton John, David Bowie, Chris Rea, Jennifer Rush, Elkie Brookes and Joan Armatrading were among the many leading artists who benefited from their association with Gus Dudgeon, one of Britain's most respected and prolific producers.

While he spent many years in a branch of the music business notorious for hard-nosed, cynical attitudes, Dudgeon was much liked for his breezy blend of good humour and enthusiasm. He put artists at their ease in the stressful confines of a recording studio and yet maintained a straight-talking, bustling style that commanded respect.

Following his untimely death in 2002 it was decided that, if nothing else, Gus’s extraordinary standards in both music production and genuine loving helpfulness should live on in the form of The Gus Dudgeon Foundation For Recording Arts.
Following this announcement we were thrilled to hear that Sir Elton John had agreed to be our Patron.
The Gus Dudgeon Foundation has been formed to preserve and promote the techniques of recording and production exemplified in Gus’s outstanding career and to give students from all walks of life the opportunity to learn and pass on these skills for future generations.
If there was ever a person who would willingly give his time to help a struggling artist or recording engineer – it was Gus. Therefore an educational trust seemed most appropriate.
The primary aim is to provide an educational recording facility for the University. Other aims of the foundation can be found here. The facility will also be made available for use by other academic institutions wherever possible.
The studio will eventually provide a world class recording facility with the full support of the Gus Dudgeon Foundation.

Sir Elton John has agreed to be the patron of the Foundation and the GDF itself is supported by the Music Producers Guild (MPG) and the Association of Professional Recording Services (APRS).

The lectures and seminars on recording techniques will be presented by members of the MPG and APRS and other tutors. Members of both groups already lecture at universities and colleges throughout the UK. Students from the full range of classical, rock and jazz music courses
will also benefit from the experience of real recording in the real world, and from discussion with, and observation of the musicians and their musical and studio techniques.
